Vivendi SA of Paris is about to close on its buyout of the majority of Activision. The combined company would expand its product line and be better able to compete with Electronic Arts, now the world's largest video game publisher.

The deal should close by July 11.

Less clear is the outcome of EA's $2 billion offer for Take-Two Interactive Software. EA has not raised its price and Take-Two trades below EA's offer price, which means EA may walk away from the deal, analysts say.
