Amanda Dorothea Bitler and Arnold Kensley Smith were married on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh. Officiating the wedding were the Rev. John J. Forbes III of Sacred Heart, Pinehurst and the Rev. David Crabtree of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. The bride's parents hosted a reception following the ceremony at Carolina Country Club. The groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner on Friday evening at The Angus Barn. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Franklin Bitler, Jr. of Raleigh and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl R. Lowendick and Dr. Glenn F. Bitler and the late Mrs. Sara Bitler, all of Raleigh. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Arnold Smith, St. Thomas, VI and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Malone, and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Smith all of Tortola, BVI. Presented in marriage by her parents, the bride was escorted by her father. Mary Morgan Bitler Keyser and Brooke Marie Bitler Poole, sisters of the bride, served as matrons of honor. Bridesmaids were Annalisa Bronzi, Italy; Sara Croninger and Stacie Whitley, Raleigh; Madeline Dodge and Theresa Fasullo, MD; Sara DeLuca and Kahlida Lloyd, Wash., DC; Mary Katherine McNeill and Lauren Phelps, the bride's cousins, NY. Kate Zarnik was a Junior Bridesmaid and Nyla Bernard and Ella Zarnik were Flower Girls. Jamard Smith, the groom's son of Pittsburgh, PA and Mark Simpson, of Raleigh, served as best men. Groomsmen were Glenn Franklin Bitler III, the bride's brother, Charlotte; Gianluca Bronzi, Italy; Andrew Cumbee, Gregory Hutchinson, Adam Woodlief, Jack Zarnik and Will Zarnik, all of Raleigh; Kevin Holmes, KS; James Phelps, NY; Kensley Smith, the groom's grandson and Andrew Poole, the bride's nephew, were ring bearers. Serving as readers were Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, FL, sister of the groom and Rev. Donna Thompson, Raleigh. Program attendants were Elaine Armstrong, Sunny Banks, and Michelle Rhodes of Raleigh. Wedding music was provided by Nan Dickman, organist, Michael Hughes, violinist, Dr. Risa Poniros, vocalist, and Chelsea Waddelow, pianist all of Raleigh. Mrs. Smith was presented at the N. C. Terpsichorean Club Debutante Ball and is a Suma Cum Laude M.A. graduate, Notre Dame, with a B.A., Meredith College. She will teach at St. Raphael Catholic School. The groom graduated from Univ. of South Florida and is an anchor and reporter for WRAL-News.
