Dr. Molly Egan Mertes and Mr. Thomas Richard Chiavetta, Jr. were married on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at two o’clock at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh. The Very Reverend Justin Kerber, C.P. officiated. The bride’s parents hosted a reception following the ceremony at the Merrimon-Wynne House. On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Caffé Luna. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Guettinger “Buz” Mertes, Jr. of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert Flynn of Paradise Valley, Arizona and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Guettinger Mertes, Sr. of Winona, Minnesota. She is a graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School, North Carolina State University and North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Molly is an associate veterinarian at Hayfield Animal Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Richard Chiavetta, Sr. of Rochester, New York. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Chiavetta of Rochester, N.Y., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Murray Maybee of Rochester, N.Y. He is a graduate of Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, N.Y., Cedarville University and Notre Dame Law School. He is an attorney with the Jones Day law firm in Washington, D.C. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Maid of Honor was Emily Wilson of Raleigh. Also attending were bridesmaids Amy Blaakman, sister of groom, of Rochester, N.Y.; Margaret Ann Kleisch of Raleigh; Frances Deller of Charlotte; and Lauren Pike of Alexandria, VA. Flower Girl was Julianna Blaakman, niece of the groom, of Rochester, N.Y.. Joshua May of Felton, PA, served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Timothy Mertes, brother of the bride, of Raleigh; Patrick Mertes, brother of the bride, of Oakland, CA; Robert Weyman, of Philadelphia, PA.; and Benjamin Migliorino of Denver, CO. The couple will reside in Washington, D.C. following their honeymoon in Santorini, Greece.
