A runaway favorite in one division, uncertainty in the other. The ACCs annual preseason media poll, released on Monday afternoon, offered few surprises.
Florida State, the defending national champion, is the overwhelming favorite in the Atlantic Division. The Seminoles received 109 of 112 first-place votes from media members attending the ACC Kickoff at the Grandover Resort.
FSU is also the clear favorite to win the ACC championship game in Charlotte in December. The Seminoles were named the leagues preseason championship game favorite on 104 ballots, while Clemson and Virginia Tech received two votes each to win the league title.

Duke walk-on defensive back Hud Mellencamp, 20—the son of rockstar John Mellencamp—is facing a misdemeanor charge for illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage. The charge was filed on July 10 with the Monroe (Ind.) County clerk’s office, the Indianapolis Star reported. An initial hearing on the case is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Monroe Circuit Court.

Jayson Tatum stands 6-foot-8 1/2 right now, heading into his junior year, but he still handles the ball like a guard. And on Thursday, playing with the under-16 St. Louis Eagles in the Nike Invitational Sweet 16, Tatum pulled off a sequence that left all of the college coaches shaking their heads.

Football season is just around the corner. Forty-six days away, according to the Blue Devils' countdown to kickoff against Elon. Head coach David Cutcliffe chuckled at that.
