Chapel Hill’s Deep Dish Theater begins its 14th season with “A Kid Like Jake,” a 2013 play by Daniel Pearle about a husband and wife attempting to get their 4-year-old into an exclusive preschool. The wife, Alex, is troubled by little Jake’s obsession with princess outfits and toys, and her feelings are complicated by an expert’s advice to play up his tendencies so he’ll stand out as special. Alex’s therapy sessions aren’t helping her accept that Jake’s tendencies might not be a phase. 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday (through Sept. 20). $19-$25. 919-968-1515 or deepdishtheater.org.
