Mountain tale's pageantry crowds out themes

North Carolina mountain superstitions and prejudices, embodied by eccentric characters with colorful dialects, have made "Dark of the Moon" a theater staple since its 1945 debut. It has powerful and haunting moments but also many weaknesses that challenge any production, including the current one from Raleigh Ensemble Players.
