“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens has been a cultural phenomenon since its publication in 1843. The story of Ebeneezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim has been adapted in films, Broadway musicals, plays, ballets, operas and radio productions.
Now, Dickens’ first submitted edition is available in its original manuscript form. The book features each page of Dickens’ manuscript in his own handwriting facing a transcribed typed page. Fun fact: in the first edition, Tiny Tim was actually Tiny Fred.
“A Christmas Carol: The Original Manuscript Edition” (Norton, $21.95) is made possible by the Morgan Library & Museum in Manhattan.
