The Meryl Streep movie is out this weekend so it’s the perfect time to check out the book “Florence Foster Jenkins: The Life of the World’s Worst Opera Singer” (Overlook, $24.95) by Darryl W. Bullock.
Jenkins, a socialite who couldn’t carry a tune, became an opera sensation in 1944 when she performed at the age of 77 to a packed Carnegie Hall. She was ridiculed for having poor pitch and tone and over-the-top choreographed routines and costumes – but people loved her.
If you’d like to win “Florence Foster Jenkins,” send an email to email@example.com by midnight Sunday and include your mailing address. Please put “Florence” in the subject line of your email to be included in the random drawing. Only the winner will be notified.
