To celebrate the film's 30th anniversary - and to get folks in the mood for Halloween - the Colony Theater in Raleigh will screen Wes Craven's horror classic "Nightmare on Elm Street" as part of their Cool Classics series on Wednesday night. The famously frightening film, which concerns horribly disfigured supernatural serial killer Freddie Krueger (Robert Englund) stalking and killing teenagers in their dreams, spawned a series of sequels, novels, comic books, a TV series, a crossover movie ("Freddy Vs. Jason") and a 2010 remake. But perhaps the best bit of trivia about the 1984 original is that it was the film debut of Johnny Depp. It starts at 7:30, and admission is $5.
