Orchestral concert devotees have much to choose from this weekend.
The N.C. Symphony concerts in Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall Friday and Saturday feature Holst’s “The Planets,” accompanied by HD NASA video, along with other celestial works by Dorman and Higdon (ncsymphony.org). Sunday afternoon finds the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle in Durham’s Carolina Theatre performing two chamber symphonies by Shostakovich (thecot.org). Or you can choose a Shakespearean Sunday afternoon in NCSU’s Stewart Theatre where the Raleigh Civic Symphony plays Bard-inspired works by Prokofiev, Walton and Elgar (raleighcivicsymphony.com).
