In a Nashville dominated by rock-and-rap bro-country drivel, Jamey Johnson throws back to the days of traditional country’s honky-tonk and heartbreak. From Hank Williams’ home state of Alabama, Johnson sings songs that resonate with Hank’s honesty and angst. An award-winning songwriter and recording artist, Johnson has won Song of the Year honors for “Give It Away” and “In Color.” He’s been nominated for a host of other awards, including Album of the Year for “The Guitar Song” and “Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran.”
You can see and hear why Johnson is among those credited with trying to bring country music back where it belongs when he plays the Carolina Theatre in Durham on Jan. 21. More info at carolinatheatre.org.
