The talented members of acoustic quartet Mipso have done a lot of woodshedding, from playing open mic nights around Chapel Hill to headlining shows on their current national tour. Their 2013 CD, “Dark Holler Pop,” was a surprising success, and their sound expanded with the addition of fiddler Libby Rodenbough in 2014. While not “bluegrass” in the Monroe/Flatt and Scruggs sense, their 2015 CD, “Old Time Reverie” nonetheless debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass chart. It matters not if you call them “bluegrass,” “Americana” or another genre term; the only label that matters is “good music.”
And that’s what you’ll get from Mipso when they play PineCone’s Down Home Concert series Friday night at Fletcher Opera Theater in Raleigh. The show is sold out, but you can be added to the waitlist by calling the PineCone box office at 919-664-8302.
