In the 15 years since forming on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill, Steep Canyon Rangers have soared into the top tier of bluegrass. Whether performing on stage with banjoist Steve Martin, or on their own at festivals and concerts, the Grammy-winning sextet possesses a unique combination of songwriting, instrumental virtuosity and high-energy stage show. Riding the crest of their current CD, “Radio,” produced by Alison Krauss band mate, Jerry Douglas, the Rangers roll into Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre Saturday for a much anticipated evening of music and fun.
