John Cowan may possess the most powerful voice in music today. Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, Cowan thumped the bass and applied his powerhouse tenor to the revolutionizing repertoire of Newgrass Revival. His post-Revival career includes several acclaimed solo CDs, as well as stints as a member of the Doobie Brothers band. Elements of bluegrass, rock, soul and gospel are heard in a Cowan concert, and Friday night, he brings it all to Motorco Music Hall in Durham. Bluegrassers Darin and Brooke Aldridge will also perform.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $25-$30. More info at motorcomusic.com.
