One of these days, New Pornographers will probably go ahead and record Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” and be done with it. No matter what they’re singing about – and the subject matter is often less than cheery on “Brill Bruisers” (Matador Records), the Canadian super-group’s first new album in four years – it comes out sounding upbeat, forward-moving and all-around joyful. “Brill Bruisers” is another super-catchy baker’s dozen of songs with sonics big and bold enough to get lost in, and they’ll play it live Sunday night at Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle ( catscradle.com). The Pains of Being Pure at Heart open at 8 p.m. The show is sold out, but tickets are available on stubhub.com and other secondary-market outlets.
