Raleigh's Old Man Whickutt is cold as ice

Old Man Whickutt, a Raleigh bluegrass group, scores some TV airtime with its bluegrass cover of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" - theme song for the rapper's new reality show.

Just in case you’ve recently had the thought, “Gee, I wonder what Vanilla Ice is doing nowadays,” here’s your answer. The rapper, who topped the charts 23 years ago with “Ice Ice Baby,” is starring in a new reality show called “Vanilla Ice Goes Amish” -- with a theme song by a local act.

That’s Old Man Whickutt, a Raleigh bluegrass group that played last month’s hometown IBMA “World of Bluegrass” festival. They also recorded a bluegrass version of “Ice Ice Baby” and it’s the theme song of the Vanilla Ice show, which follows him on a series of adventures in an Amish community. Check that out in the trailer below. The show debuts at 10 p.m. Saturday on the DIY Network, Raleigh cable channel 356. You can also hear it live at 3:30 p.m. Saturday when Old Man Whickutt plays as part of North Hills Mall’s Midtown BBQ, Bluegrass & Brew Festival.
