Link Wray comes up short for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

In his first time on the finalist ballot, the late great Link Wray does not make the final cut - but maybe next year.

When last heard from, city fathers in Link Wray’s old hometown of Dunn were hoping that the late great guitar-slinger would be among the next crop of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But alas, it was not to be, at least not this time. The class of 2014 has been announced, a list that includes Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt - but not Wray, renowned as one of the greatest guitar-tone architects of the rock era.

So it looks like another round of Wait ’Til Next Year. Meantime, let’s all fire up “Rumble” one more time.
