Whatever you’re doing Thursday night, Casey Sutton can top it: She’ll be onstage at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, fabled birthplace of country music, singing in the finals of the 32nd annual Texaco Country Showdown. Sutton, who teaches marketing at Panther Creek High School in Cary when she’s not singing, is one of five national finalists in the contest - which pays $100,000 to the grand-prize winner, as determined by a panel of judges.
LeAnn Rimes will serve as host Thursday night, and Sutton is scheduled to perform folk-blues classic “The House of the Rising Sun” as well as an original called “Smokin’ Gun” (reprising the songs she sang to win her regional semi-final round in Hershey, Pa., last fall). The show will be broadcast, but not live. Look for it in syndication on cable sometime later this spring.
