The best rock picks, April 4

’70s-vintage pop star Todd Rundgren plays Monday night in Durham at the Carolina Theatre (plus, later this summer at DPAC).

We’re going to be seeing a fair amount of ’70s-vintage pop star Todd Rundgren in Durham, starting with his Monday night show at the Carolina Theatre. Then he’ll come back around this summer as part of Ringo Starr’s “All Starr Band,” which plays Durham Performing Arts Center on June 22 (Rundgren’s 66th birthday, as it happens). Whether on his own, backing up Beatles or producing everybody from XTC to New York Dolls, Rundgren remains a certifiable pop genius four decades past his commercial heyday, with a catalog that goes well beyond the ’70s hits he’s known for. Monday’s show at the Carolina starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $43.50-$66.50. See carolinatheatre.org for details.
