'Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,' No. 8 in 'Bluegrass for Beginners'

Flatt & Scruggs’ “Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” a recast version of an old Monroe Brothers tune, is the eighth of 12 selections in our “Bluegrass for Beginners” countdown.

Continuing on to the eighth selection in our pre-IBMA “Bluegrass for Beginners” countdown, we have “Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” which was originally a 1930s-vintage Monroe Brothers tune. Lester Flatt recast it, and scored a hit with Flatt & Scruggs’ Foggy Mountain Boys in 1951 (it was also a hit for Buck Owens 20 years later). “Roll” is another classic bluegrass breakdown, fast and clean.
