Continuing on to the eighth selection in our pre-IBMA “Bluegrass for Beginners” countdown, we have “Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” which was originally a 1930s-vintage Monroe Brothers tune. Lester Flatt recast it, and scored a hit with Flatt & Scruggs’ Foggy Mountain Boys in 1951 (it was also a hit for Buck Owens 20 years later). “Roll” is another classic bluegrass breakdown, fast and clean.
