What to Watch on Friday: ‘The Knick’ may be Cinemax’s first prestige drama

The Knick (Cinemax) - The premiere episode of a critically acclaimed new medical drama set in a 1900s New York City hospital. In tonight’s opener, the accomplished Dr. John W. Thackery ( Clive Owen) is named chief surgeon and is pressured by a major benefactor to hire a black doctor as his top assistant. If you have Cinemax, check this out. If you don’t have Cinemax, this might be the show that tips you into their column.

Cold Justice (9pm, TNT) - The bludgeoning death of a single mother in Paulding, Ohio, is investigated.

Treehouse Masters (10pm, Animal Planet) - A 30-sided geometric orb, connected to trees by wires and accessible by a vertical ladder, is built for a family near Seattle. The family has the reputation of rescuing lost and stranded hikers in the woods.
