New show: NCIS: New Orleans
When: 9 p.m. Tuesdays on CBS
Cast: Scott Bakula, Lucas Black, C.C.H. Pounder, Zoe McLellan
Premise: When something works, why change it? At least that’s the philosophy at CBS, which has launched another spinoff in its empire-building “NCIS” franchise.
Never miss a local story.
This one stars Scott Bakula (one of the finest-aging male actors in Hollywood) as Dwayne Cassius “King” Pride, an old colleague of Mark Harmon’s equally awesomely named Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Pride’s number two guy is played by Lucas Black (“Sling Blade,” “Friday Night Lights,” “The Fast and the Furious”) – someone I remember as being a better actor than what I’m seeing in this show. Rounding out the main cast, the awesome C.C.H. Pounder (“The Shield,” “Sons of Anarchy”) plays the medical examiner, and Zoe McLellan (“JAG”) is another agent.
The New Orleans characters were actually introduced during the previous season of “NCIS,” in a two-part story in which Gibbs and Agent DiNozzo travel to New Orleans to help Pride’s team solve a series of brutal murders that started with the murder of a U.S. Congressman from Louisiana. Look for actors from “NCIS” to guest star on the NOLA spinoff throughout the season.
Should you watch? If you you’re a fan of “NCIS,” absolutely.
