Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (8 p.m., CBS) - One of the most charming of all the holiday specials, this Burl Ives-narrated animated musical tells the story of a reindeer with a very shiny nose who runs away from home after being picked on for being different. Of course, Rudolph’s gifted schnoz ends up helping Santa one foggy Christmas eve. First telecast in 1964, it includes the song “Holly Jolly Christmas.” ( Note: “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year,” a decent but inferior follow-up, airs at 10 p.m. on ABC Family.)
Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town (8 p.m., ABC) - This can only be described as cruelly unfair counter-programming. This stop-motion classic is considered (by me) to be the true-life origin story of Santa Claus, and one of the most beloved holiday specials of all time. It’s voiced by Fred Astaire and Mickey Rooney. I hope for the sake of your children that you have a DVR.
The Mindy Project (9:30 p.m., Fox) - Mindy wonders if Danny will propose as the holidays approach, and Morgan has an ideal date thanks to a case of mistaken identity.
Sons of Anarchy (10 p.m., FX) - There’s sure to be plenty of bloodshed and heartbreak in tonight’s series finale, in which Jax aims to fulfill his father’s legacy.
Angelina Jolie: Unbroken (10 p.m., NBC) - Angelina Jolie presents a look at the real story behind the film “Unbroken,” which she directed. The film is based on the bestselling book by Laura Hillenbrand and tells the story of Louie Zamperini, a former Olympic track star who survived a plane crash in the Pacific ocean during WWII and spent 47 days on a raft and then two-and-a-half years in Japanese POW camps.
Victoria Secret Fashion Show (10 p.m., CBS) - After the kiddies watch “Rudolph” and “Santa” and they are safely tucked in bed, tune in to see scantily clad women walk the runway while Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Hozier perform.
