Salinger (9pm, UNC-TV) - An American Masters look at the life of J.D. Salinger, who stepped away from the spotlight following the success of his 1951 novel “The Catcher in the Rye.” Included in the documentary is his relationship with Oona O’Neill, his WWII experiences and his involvement with younger women, including writer Joyce Maynard. It features archival footage and photos; remarks from friends, colleagues and admirers, such as John Cusack and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The Goldbergs (9pm, ABC) - Adam and Dana decide to attend their first school dance together, and have to deal with the potentially embarrassing situation of having both of their moms at the event. Meanwhile, Murray has the “birds and the bees” talk with Barry, it doesn’t go as planned.
New Girl (9pm, Fox) - As Jess’ birthday approaches, Nick plans to throw her the perfect party. Also, Schmidt helps Cece acclimate to her new bar tending job, while Winston and Coach compete in a bake-off.
