Resurrection (9pm, ABC) - The premiere of this new series follows the residents of the small town of Arcadia, Mo., whose lives are forever changed when their deceased loved ones suddenly start to reappear (a phenomenon happening all over the world, by the way, not just in Arcadia). In the first episode, an 8-year-old boy who was presumed dead for more than 30 years is reunited with his now 60-year-old parents. This series is based on a 2013 novel by Jason Mott called “The Returned,” which incidentally was set in North Carolina, not Missouri. All this is easily confused with a superb French drama called “The Returned” that aired last year on the Sundance Channel. That series (which aired in France in 2012) is also about people who suddenly return from the dead – but to a remote village in the French Alps. I’ve only watched the first two episodes of the ABC series, and there are so many similarities to the French series that it just boggles the brain. And I know that practically none of you will take my advice to see the French series, but really, you should. The ABC series is probably a little easier to digest – it’s not quite as dark or creepy as the French series, plus it is in English – but its lighter tone also makes it a bit dull by comparison.
