What to Watch on Thursday: ‘Surviving Jack’ should survive on Fox

Surviving Jack (9:30pm, Fox) - Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: SVU”) stars in this new Fox sitcom about an emotionally distant working father (a surgeon) who takes a more active role in his two teenage kids’ lives after their mom goes back to school. It’s based on Justin Halpern’s autobiographical book, “I Suck at Girls” (same guy who wrote “$#*! My Dad Says” -- but this is much, much better.) Rachael Harris plays the mom.

Also on tonight . . .

NCAA Tournament - The games are back. The Sweet 16 rounds start tonight (and continue tomorrow) on CBS and TBS. You can check the CBS online schedule for details, but there’s no ACC action until Friday night at 10. It’s worth noting that former N.C. State point guard Archie Miller coaches Dayton, who plays Stanford at 7:15 tonight on CBS.

Parenthood (10pm, NBC) - Joel and Sarah are in high spirits after finishing projects at work (so maybe now they can spend some time figuring out why they’re so bad at relationships?).

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - Look who’s back! Fitz and Mellie’s kids -- who apparently do still exist -- join them for a TV interview at the White House. Meanwhile, Papa Pope warns Olivia to stop her investigation into B613.
