Fans of the 2004 Vince Vaughn-Ben Stiller movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” no doubt recall the made-up ESPN channel, ESPN8: The Ocho. The Ocho aired “seldom seen sports from around the globe,” like lawn mower races and yes, dodgeball.
This Tuesday, for one day only, ESPNU will forego its usual lineup of classic college football games and college sports documentaries to transform into ESPN: The Ocho, bringing us disc golf matches, roller derby, arm wrestling, darts, cornhole and – not just dodgeball, trampoline dodgeball.
The Moxie Games – which combine two sports into one, like martial arts and volleyball – sound particularly must-see.
So it sounds like the faux network’s tagline from the film holds true, even if it’s just for 24 amazing hours: “If it’s almost a sport, we’ve got it here!”
The Ocho programming starts at midnight on ESPNU. Learn more about the channel and lineup at ESPN.
