More than 23,700 people ran or walked to help raise money to fight breast cancer during Saturday morning's Race for the Cure. The turnout exceeded last year's by about 1,700, said Kevin Boyd, spokesman for the event. It will be several days before organizers know how much money the event raised, Boyd said.
The 5K race and related events at Meredith College benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
