The father of "Hot Buttered Soul," the man who gave us the theme song to "Shaft" as well as the voice of lovable ladies' man Chef on TV's "South Park," died Sunday.
Isaac Hayes, 65, was found by family members at home in Memphis, Tenn., next to a treadmill.
His talents were many, and his contributions spanned generations. If you weren't around when his early albums hit the scene, not to worry. You can still hear him now, thanks to the countless rap, soul and R&B artists who have built on what he created.
He wrote songs, he acted in movies -- he even set a fashion trend or two. And perhaps most of all, he set the standard for cool.
