Marchers with the NAACP in North Carolina arrived at the state Capitol today to mark the start of the organization's state convention in Raleigh.
The group gathered at Chavis Park and walked to the Capitol in what organizers called a "pilgrimage for justice, truth and voter enfranchisement." Similar marches were held across the state in recent days to mark the 1898 riot by white supremacists and to honor women who were victims of the state's eugenics movement.
The NAACP convention runs through Saturday at the North Raleigh Hilton.
Ben Jealous, president and CEO of the national NAACP, is scheduled to address a membership luncheon at noon Friday, and actor Danny Glover is scheduled to speak at a banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday.
