RALEIGH -- Carolina Hurricanes right wing Justin Williams will have reconstructive knee surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out of action for four to six months, the team has announced.
Williams suffered the injury when he was hit in the offensive zone during the first period of Thursday night's game against the Florida Panthers. The surgery will be scheduled for next week. Williams, 26, has nine goals and 21 assists (30 points) in 36 games this season, and is tied for fifth on the team in scoring.
The Cobourg, Ont., native has totaled 121 goals and 185 assists (306 points) in 458 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Carolina, and played in his first NHL All-Star Game in 2007.
Williams has played in 205 consecutive regular-season games for the Hurricanes from March 27, 2004 through Thursday, the fourth-longest streak in franchise history.
The Hurricanes also have placed forward Chad LaRose on injured reserve after he suffered a concussion. The move is retroactive to Dec. 18.
LaRose, who has four goals and six assists, suffered the injury Tuesday in a victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Carolina has recalled forward Brandon Nolan from Albany of the American Hockey League to take LaRose's spot on the roster.
