Sue Carson Mercer, 85, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 with her daughters present at Azalea Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, NC. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Harold Mercer, parents James Montgomery and Ellen Holmes Carson, brothers Jim Carson, Ray Carson and sister Rebecca Carson Clark. She is survived by daughters Charlean Mercer, Julia Mercer and Lee Mercer Beere, son-in-law George Beere, sister Ellen Carson Jackson, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Pat Mercer and many nieces and nephews.
She was born in Statesville, NC, raised in the Eastover area near Fayetteville, NC, attended Florida State University and made the waterfront near Beaufort, NC her home. She enjoyed crafts and games and loved to travel. She visited all 50 states, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. It was often said that when asked if she wanted to go, the answer would be “Yes”, and then “Where?”.
Two services will be held to celebrate her life; Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 3:30 ,Azalea Health Care and Rehabilitation Center at 3800 Independence Blvd., Wilmington, NC and Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 1:00 at The Boat House at Front Street Village at 2400 Lennoxville Road, Beaufort, NC. Following the gathering on Sunday she will be laid to rest with her husband in Carteret Memorial Gardens, Beaufort, NC.
