Monroe “Pat” Bell, 52, of 2212 Lakeview Terrace, Burlington, died at his residence on Thursday, September 4th, 2014.
A native of Alamance County, Pat was the son of George L. Bell, who survives and the late Jean Hamilton Bell. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington where he was an Elder and also served as Chairman of the Sound Committee. He was a weekly volunteer in the church office and had proudly earned his Eagle Scout award as a member of Troop 17. Among his many other interests, he was an avid HAM radio operator.
His career in the radio industry spanned over 30 years. In 1981, while a student at Elon University, Pat began working at the Elon campus station, WSOE-FM. Upon graduating in 1983, he continued as a studio operator and on-air personality at WBBB-FM, Burlington; WREV-AM, Reidsville; WBAG-AM, Burlington; WIST-FM, Thomasville; WZTK-FM, Burlington; WPCM-AM, Burlington and WBAG-AM, Burlington. Many will remember Pat as the current host of the Saturday Morning Swap Shop at WBAG-AM.
Other than his father, George L. Bell, Pat is survived by his sister, Jeanie Bell Burris and her husband Brad, of Whitsett; nieces, Taylor Ward and Sarah Patterson, of Whitsett and a nephew, Tanner Baker, of Whitsett and his family of devoted friends.
A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday September 7, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 508 W Davis St, Burlington, NC 27215. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at their residence. Entombment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
