George Allen Valentine, 89, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2014 after a short illness. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on November 15, 1924 to the late George Conway Valentine and Mary Ricker Valentine. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Byrd Bott Valentine and son, George Allen Valentine, Jr.
He graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1943, having earned sixteen varsity letters in sports.
He served proudly as a radioman in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He participated in the Solomons Campaign, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the naval action at Surigao Straits, and the liberation of the Philippines. After his service, George attended the College of William and Mary.
He was an agent for New England Mutual Life Insurance Cmpany for over 30 years consistently making the Life Underwriters Million Dollar Round Table. He was a member of West Haven Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder for many years. He was also extremely proud to have been an original member of the Rocky Mount Coffee Club.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Roland Valentine and his wife, Debbie of Raleigh, NC, and Christopher Valentine and his wife, Debra of Fuguay Varina, NC. He also leaves two grandsons, Michel and Stephan of Fuquay Varina, NC and his loyal dog and companion, Abby, of the home.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 8, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the home of George Valentine. A private internment will follow at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.
