John A Dinger Jr. was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the eldest son of John and Helen Dinger. His business career covered many decades in the real estate, insurance, and securities industries. He was a faithful servant in many of the military veteran organizations and a member of Edenton St. United Methodist Church. He married Ardith Pipher in 1947, who died in 1996. He leaves three children, Jeffrey of Pearisburg, VA, Shannon of Raleigh, NC, and John of Cary, NC, and four grandchildren, Katelyn, Brogan, Sydney, and Jeffrey. His two younger brothers, William and James, preceded him in death. He wished to acknowledge the outstanding care he received from the staff in the extended care facility at the Durham VA Medical Center. John was a Navy veteran of WWII and Korea and later of the Reserve for a total of 35 years. He retired as a Captain earning 15 citations and ribbons with 12 battle stars. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in November 2002 in recognition for his service to establish SSN 777, the USS North Carolina. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday October 5, in the Dogwood Room of the Bond Park Community Center, at 801 High House Rd in Cary, NC. His internment will happen at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Dinger requested in lieu of flowers, please take a loved one out to dinner.
