Nancy Brown Brewer, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at Hillcrest Convalescent Center, her daughter by her side.
Nancy was born and raised in Durham. She attended Durham Public Schools and graduated from Durham High School in 1939. Upon her graduation Nancy and her typewriter went to Washington, DC where she worked for the Department of Defense. After the war she returned to Durham and married Stroud O Brewer, Jr. Together they owned and operated Brewer's Drug Store until 1972. She was then employed by the EPA, OAQPS division for twenty years. Nancy was a lifetime member of Carr United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, her parents, Ruth Southerland and DW Brown, her brothers, Duane W. Brown and William Jackson Brown and her sister Patsy Southerland Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy B Shelton and her husband G. Bradford Shelton of Basel, Switzerland; her brother Mike Brown and his wife Bonnie J Brown of Wilmington, NC, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, at 11:00 am in Maplewood Cemetery, Section 12. Officiating will be Rev. David Harwin.
