James “Jim” Finley Boney, Jr., 61, died unexpectedly at home Thursday, September 11, 2014. Jim was born in Raleigh, N.C. on July 5, 1953, the eldest son of James Finley Boney, Sr. of Raleigh, N.C., and the late Jewel Bradshaw Boney. Along with his father, he is survived by his wife, Carol Brooks Wallin Boney whom he married April 30, 1983. Jim is survived by two brothers, Daniel (Linda) S. Boney of Mountain City, TN and David (Bregetta) S. Boney of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by two sisters-in-laws Julie (Gary) Riggs and Ann Honan, both of Brooksville, KY, uncle to 8 nieces, one nephew and also a great uncle to 4 nephews and two nieces.
He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Mr. Boney was a member of the North and South Carolina State Boards of Professional Land Surveyors He was also a member of Boy Scouts of America and attained Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor in Order of the Arrow and served as adult leader attaining the Wood Badge Distinction and served as District Executive Chairman over many troops of Occoneechee Council, Raleigh, N.C. Jim worked 26 years with Boney & Associates Civil Engineering and Land Surveying in Raleigh N.C., and was owner of Boney Land Surveying for 15 years in Oak Island, N.C, where he also served as chairman of the city Stormwater Advisory Board for five years. Jim and Carol retired to Brooksville, KY in 2012, where he recently was current Chairman of the newly formed Augusta Regional Sewer Authority/Bracken Co. Jim was a private pilot, enjoyed golf, boating and was an avid N.C. State Wolf Pack fan and most recently found a love for farming.
A memorial service will be held on September 27th at 5:00 with visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville, KY.
