Patricia Wilson LeGrand, 81, a resident of Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Raleigh, died Sunday, September 14, 2014. Born March 31, 1933, in Hamlet, Pat was the daughter of Nash LeGrand and Maurine Long LeGrand.
Pat was a registered nurse and served in several positions, including working for the American Red Cross Blood Drive in North Carolina and as a psychiatric nurse at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Prior to becoming a nurse, Pat also had the honor of teaching special needs students during the inaugural year the program was offered in the Southern Pines schools. After retirement, she enjoyed working in the nursery at the A. E. Finley YMCA in Raleigh.
She was a member of several churches throughout her life and loved participating in church and community activities. She thought there was no better way to spend time than sharing a meal with loved ones. She was an avid tennis fan and loved going to the beach. She will be remembered for her laughter, generous spirit, and love of family and friends.
Pat is survived by her children: William Edward Samuels III and his partner Michael Stailey of Richmond, Va; Jay LeGrand Samuels and his wife Ellen Bolick Samuels of Oak Island; and Patricia Samuels Philbrook and her partner Vicki Britt of Garner.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Laura Samuels LeBlanc and her husband Brian, Callison Samuels Roberts and her husband Clayton, Erin Philbrook, Meaghan Philbrook, and William Philbrook and his fiancee Cristen Cornelius. In addition, Pat was a proud great grandmother of four, Parker and Noah Roberts, Jaxon Philbrook and Hannah LeBlanc. Pat is also survived by dear friend and sister-in-law Shirley LeGrand of Oklahoma City and nephews Bill LeGrand, Nash LeGrand III, David LeGrand, and John LeGrand, all of Oklahoma City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Nash LeGrand Jr., father of her children William E. Samuels Jr., and second husband William G. Kneisel.
