John Pilos, 87, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Transitions LifeCare Saturday evening September 27. Johnny was born in Patras, Greece, the son of the late Spiros and Margarite Pilos. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a very high spirited man with a heart of gold. He loved his family deeply and embraced life fully. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, “Betty” Mary Pilos; three children, Johnny Pilos, Margaret and husband Steve Wilder, Walter and Melinda Pilos all of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Helen Pilos of Athens, Greece; sister-in-law, Gerry Pilos of Raleigh. He was blessed with one grandchild, Brantly Wilder of Raleigh. He also leaves behind numerous family members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Rattelade and brother, Harry Pilos.
A private service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at their home Saturday, October 4th, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. “To live in the hearts of those you love is not to die.”
