Mr. Marvin Taylor Barnhill, 71, died Friday, October 24, 2014.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 4 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Barnhill was born to Marvin T. Barnhill and Dorothy Roberson Barnhill on December 24, 1942 in Greenville, NC. He grew up in Stokes, NC. He graduated from Stokes Pactolus High School in 1962, where he served as FFA President and held offices in several other clubs. He attended NC State University. He married Marjorie Rappold Barnhill, his best friend, soul mate, and the love of his life, 50 years strong. He served in the NC National Guard. He began his career in the Tobacco industry with American Tobacco Company in 1963. He as well worked for a short while for the Phillip Morris Company. In 1976 he retired from the corporate world and returned to his true passion of farming. He loved living close to the land and was a true steward of the land. He was recognized for several farming awards throughout his career including Wheat Yield Champion and Conservation, and numerous livestock awards.
Taylor was a man of deep faith and attended Hickory Grove Church in Robersonville, NC. He was blessed with two children and three grandchildren that lit up his life. He was an avid traveler and especially loved traveling with his wife, family and friends. He was blessed to have such a wonderful family of friends at the beach and river. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing with buddies, and gardening with his special neighbor. He was a generous man with a huge heart that enjoyed helping family and friends.

Taylor was survived by his wife Marjorie Rappold Barnhill, children, John Taylor Barnhill and wife Rhonda, Laura Barnhill Wainwright and husband Jason. Grandchildren Bailey Taylor Wainwright, Connor Boyd Wainwright, and step grandson James Mason Sutton. Brothers, James L. Barnhill and wife Sylvia, John R. Barnhill and wife Ann. Sister, Kathryn Matilda Barnhill Sheppard and husband Dean. One surviving Aunt, Frances Wrenn Roberson. Special dog, Maggie, his "Baby Girl". Several special in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, many lifelong friends and, his "adopted" families abroad Marc Struder and family, and Nadine Schmitt Gunther and family.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone for their prayers and overwhelming support during this difficult time. Margie would also like to send a special thanks for the wonderful doctors and nurses that went above and beyond to provide Taylor and our family with superior care and loving support!
