James “Cabot” Gupton, 73, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Born on December 2, 1940 in Louisburg, NC, he was the son of the late J. Frank and Martha Lynn Denton Gupton.
Cabot graduated from Broughton High School in 1959, Ogelthorpe University in Atlanta and received his Master’s from Boston University. Cabot lived and breathed for the Boy Scouts of America, and considered himself as a “professional” Boy Scout. He was a Scout Executive in Japan, Germany and Raleigh, NC, as well as other states in the United States. Cabot was an avid traveler and member of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Cabot is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Gupton; daughter, Holly Gupton (Cesar); daughter-in-law, Tanya Gupton Smith; brothers, Archie Gupton (Urbana), Frank Gupton (Lynn); sister, Panthea Pleasants (John); step-mother, Magdeline Gupton; three grandchildren, Christian, Julia and Emma; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Russ Gupton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 1 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel.
