Andolia Vanessa Oakley Eaton, 92, of Durham, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born May 21, 1922 in Granville County, North Carolina to the late Lot Oakley and Bettie Sidney Oakley. She was a proud 1944 graduate of Shaw University and a life-long educator. She retired from the Durham Public Schools after a long and distinguished career. She was an active member of White Rock Baptist Church in Durham for more than 50 years serving in many church ministries including the Maude E. Logan District and the Deaconess Ministry.
Her passion for literacy was great and was actualized through her volunteer service providing books for and teaching youth to read. She served for many years on the board of Read Seed, Inc., an organization committed to child literacy in North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Dennis Eaton. In addition to her sister, Mildred Oakley Page of Durham, NC and sister-in-law Vinell Hicks of Winston-Salem, NC, she is survived by many friends, and a host of loving nieces and nephews descended from the Oakleys, Satterfields, Gregorys, Pages and Eatons.

The celebration of her life will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 12:00 noon at White Rock Baptist Church, 3400 Fayetteville St., Durham, NC 27707. A visitation with family and friends will take place one hour before the service from 11:00 am to 12:00. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Omega Omega Service will be held during the visitation hour.
