Charlotte’s BB&T BallPark will host a college baseball game between the Charlotte 49ers and the N.C. State Wolfpack at 6:05 p.m. March 31, 2015.
“What a great opportunity for our program,” 49ers coach Loren Hibbs said in a statement. “Everyone is looking forward to March 31 and the opportunity for Niner Nation to show its support for our program and the Charlotte Knights.”
The 49ers released their 2015 schedule Wednesday, opening their season with a series Feb. 13-15 at Georgia at the Bulldogs’ renovated stadium. Charlotte (19-31-1 last season) then will play 18 consecutive games at home, including a Conference USA season-opening series March 6-8 against Rice.
Two former 49ers have gone to play for the Charlotte Knights. Mark Davidson – a six-year major league veteran – played for the Knights in 1993, and right-hander Tyler Barnette, a Hickory native, was a reliever for the Knights last season.
Two former Wolfpack players were with the Knights this past season in Eric Surkamp and No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 major league draft, Carlos Rodon.
The 49ers-Wolfpack game is the first scheduled for the spring season at BB&T BallPark. The Knights have scheduled an exhibition against their parent club, the Chicago White Sox, at 6:05 p.m. April 3.
