James (Jim) Francis Stay, 74, of Mebane, peacefully passed away while in Hospice care. He was born in Saugerties, NY to Florence Duffy Stay & Freeman Stay, Sr. He graduated from Saugerties High School in 1957 & lived his early life in Quarryville & Saugerties, NY. He resided in Raleigh for many years & retired to Mebane. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: John & Freeman Stay, Thomas, William & Richard Stamp & sister Virginia Stay Justi. He is survived by his daughters: Tanya Stay of Tampa, FL & Megan Asher Stay of Mebane, his stepchildren: Melody Scruggs(Richard), Joseph Richardson & Jason Richardson, his sisters: Ethel Stay Quick, Marion Stay Vail (Everett) & Alice Stamp Byrne, plus numerous nieces & nephews.
Jim was an early pioneer of automation & Information Technology, & worked most of his life as an independent contractor & computer programmer. He had a beautiful singing voice & had a passion for the humane care and treatment of animals. For over 15 yrs he volunteered at The Carnivore Preservation Trust, The Conservator's Center & APS of Caswell Co. He went on to found his own dog rescue, Dog Repair, Inc & co-found Caswell Pet Lifeline. Jim lived with carcinoid cancer for the last 8 yrs of his life, yet continued to work with abused, neglected & abandoned animals. After retiring he realized that his true talent was in socializing, rehabilitating & “repairing” his rescue dogs.
Jim's wish was to be cremated, with no funeral services. His family and friends will share in a private memorial in his honor.
