Sara Douglas McPhail Harris, 71, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, NC.
Sara Doug will join her beloved husband, Allen, of 45 years.
She leaves her sons, Rod of Charlotte, Doug and wife Amy; twin grandchildren, Wes and Ellie of Glastonbury, CT and Scott and wife Carrie; grandchildren, Trace and Blake of Matthews; her father, Doug McPhail of Suffolk, VA; brother, Phil McPhail and wife Barbara of Suffolk, VA; several nieces and nephews; and many, many close friends and family members who will miss her dearly.
Daughter of Doug and Sara McPhail, Sara Doug was born on March 13, 1943 in Wilson, NC. She was raised in Enfield, NC and eventually met her husband, Allen Harris, at Greensboro College. They were married in Enfield, NC on August 18, 1963 at the Enfield Methodist Church. They raised their family in High Point, NC where they lived for 20 years before moving to Southern Pines to open a furniture store in 1993. They were members of First Presbyterian Church in High Point and Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines where she was a member of the choir for many years.
Sara Doug was a loving wife, wonderful mother and proud grandmother “Mimi”. She volunteered at schools, church and was a Doncaster sales representative for several years. She loved to travel, especially to the beach, but her main love was spending time with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr., Matthews, NC with a brief reception to follow.
