Mrs. Mae Meredith Johnson Dula, age 80, died Monday night at her home.
Born January 8, 1934, in Oxford, Mrs. Dula was the daughter of the late Rev. James McRay and Mae Meredith Smith Johnson. She and her family moved to Walnut Cove in 1946 where she graduated from Walnut Cove High School in 1952. A music major, she was a graduate of Mars Hill College, and attended Guilford College. She had formerly been employed as a kindergarten teacher. She moved to Durham in January of 1958.
She was a member of Yates Baptist Church, where she was active in the music department, having served as church pianist. She belonged to the Ministry Away Program at the church. Mrs. Dula had also been a volunteer assistant at the Industries For the Blind.
A very generous person to her family and friends, she enjoyed giving, especially clothes and jewelry.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, William Alfred Dula; two sons, William A. Dula, Jr. of Greensboro, John Bradley Dula and wife Julie of High Point; her brother, James McRay Johnson Jr. of Winston-Salem; and three grandchildren, Jack, Ryan, and Braley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM in Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel, Rev. John Frederick and Rev. Christopher Ingram officiating. Graveside rites will be held at 3:00 PM in the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at 238
Chalybeate Springs Road, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yates Baptist Church, 2819 Chapel Hill Road, Durham, North Carolina 27707, or to a favorite charity.
