John Patrick Middlewood, PhD, ended his earthly journey on November 21, 2014, leaving behind his wife Maeo; a daughter Margaret Santos, her husband Stephen, and their children Aurora and Dean Santos; a son Nimit Kampoo; and a sister Esther Middlewood. John was predeceased by his parents, George and Eva Middlewood, his stepmother Mary, and his first wife Malee. He also leaves behind Roger (Kay) Guy and Nora (Doug) Lawrie, his step-siblings. John, born in Farmington, Michigan, on June 22, 1940, attended Pierson Elementary School and Bentley High School in Livonia, Michigan.
Following his graduation in 1958, John enlisted in the US Air Force where he served in a variety of locations, including Thailand. He took college classes during his military service and earned both an undergraduate degree and a MPA (Master of Public Administration). While in Thailand, John married Malee who returned to the States with him in 1973. After his retirement from the US Air Force in 1978, John continued his education and earned a second degree in elementary education. He taught school in San Bernadino, California and later in Clayton, North Carolina.
While in North Carolina, John attended the Smithfield Advent Christian Church, Smithfield, NC. He began studying for the ministry and, following the death of his first wife, John accepted God’s call as a missionary to Thailand and returned to the land he loved. He met and married his second wife Maeo in Nakhon Phanom where he established the Christian Mission Ban Naratchakwai and completed dual Doctorates. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He reached out hands that circled the globe.
