Hannah Kathryn Mitchell and John Bennett McWilliams were united in marriage on November 8th, 2014 at Lee Chapel in Lexington, Virginia at half past five in the afternoon. Reverend Doctor Robert Crewdson of Lexington, VA and Reverend E. Powell Osteen, Jr. of Morehead City, NC were officiates at the double ring ceremony. A reception hosted by the bride's parents followed at Evans Hall on the campus of Washington & Lee University.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Edwin Mitchell, Jr. of New Bern, NC. She is the granddaughter of the late Hilda Martin Harrell of Rocky Mount, NC and the late Lewis Warren Harrell of Rich Square, NC and Mr. and Mrs. James Edwin Mitchell of Raleigh.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall McWilliams of Columbia, SC. He is the grandson of Mrs. Larry Esteen Pedrick, Jr. and the late Mr. Larry Esteen Pedrick Jr. of Columbia, SC and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Reece McWilliams of Columbia, SC.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father. The bride’s sisters, Mollie Martin Mitchell of Charlotte and Elizabeth Weldon Mitchell of Raleigh were the maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Mann Rhodes of Dallas Texas, Emily Wallace of Washington, DC, Emily Whipple of Nashville, Tennessee, Hannah Murphy of Clemson, SC, Hardie Calvert Tatman of Atlanta, Georgia, Kathleen Morphis Yabroudy of Nashville, Tennessee, Meredith Mitchell of New York, NY, and Sarah Kaplan of Washington, DC. Attendants were Blair Mitchell of Raleigh, cousin of the bride, Caroline Head of Atlanta, GA, Caroline Mann of Hanover, NH, Cristin Quinn of Nashville, TN, Kristin Mallinson, and Lauren Johnson of Washington, DC, and Diana Burgreen Martinez of Denver, CO.
The groom’s father served as best man. Groomsmen were Robert McWilliams, Jr. of Columbia, SC and Larry McWilliams of Charlotte, NC, brothers of the groom, Brett Thomas of Columbia, SC, David Gilbert of Washington, DC, Hank Scurry of Columbia, SC, Hugh Gainer, Jr. of Washington DC, John Ehrhardt of New York, NY, John Hornbuckle of Norman, Oklahoma and Thom Rathbone of Walla Walla, Washington. Ushers were Brian Litwak of Charlotte, NC and Jonathon Townsend of Los Angeles, CA. The ring bearer was Master Akshay Punyapu of Los Angeles, CA.
Nuptial music was provided by vocalist Stephanie Stewart, organist Joshua Harvey and the Four Seasons String Quartet.
The bridesmaid luncheon was hosted by Joyce Mitchell, grandmother of the bride. Prior to the rehearsal, a White Bible ceremony was held for the bride and groom at Belfield House. On Friday evening, a rehearsal dinner dance was hosted by the parents of the groom at the R.E. Lee Hotel.
The bride graduated from Saint Mary’s School, Raleigh and Washington & Lee University with a BS in Business. She is a senior strategic account executive with Cvent, Inc. The groom graduated from A. C. Flora High School in Columbia, SC, Washington & Lee University with a BA in English and the McIntire School of Commerce at UVA. He is employed as an analyst with the TerrAlign Group, Inc.
After a honeymoon trip to Anguilla, the couple will make their home in Washington, DC.
