Gloria Garavaglia Rivers, 86, of Raleigh, North Carolina, died surrounded by her family Christmas evening.
She was born to the late Louisa Caprani Garavaglia and Alexander Garavaglia on June 18th, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan.
Gloria graduated from Oceana High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1945 and received her RN from De Paul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, Virginia in 1948.
She married The Reverend John Charles Rivers in September of 1948 and is survived by her loving husband, her son, John C. Rivers Jr of Raleigh and his wife Kate, her daughter Susan Rivers Ballas and her husband Bill of Pleasanton, California, her sister Wendy Rockwell of Panama City, Panama, her brother-in-law Wilson Rivers and his wife Frances of Virginia Beach, her four grandchildren (Jamie McCallum, Jodie Hepp, Jillian Leonard, and Kathryn Bryant), as well as seven great grandchildren.

Gloria enjoyed oil painting, math equations, crossword puzzles, and gadgets. She was an avid reader and incredibly computer savvy. Her moxie and fantastic sense of humor were cherished by all who knew her.
She will be forever missed by her adoring family and friends.

A service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, North Carolina, on Wednesday, December 31st, at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The St. Michael's Clergy Discretionary Fund.
