Mamie Watkins Blackley, 94, passed away on December 27, 2014. She was born October 11, 1920 in Wake County to the late Lorenzo Newsome Watkins and Luetta Bailey Watkins. Mamie graduated from Rolesville High School in 1938 where she was Valedictorian of her senior class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Rufus “C.R.” Blackley on April 27, 2005. They were married on Christmas day of 1938. The Lord blessed Mamie and Charlie with a loving, faithful marriage of over 66 years. Together they raised their three daughters, farmed, and remained active members of the Wake Cross Roads community. They were lifelong members of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Mamie was affectionately named “Big Mama” by her grandchildren. Big Mama loved her family dearly and especially cherished the family’s tradition of gathering at her house for Sunday lunch. Mamie, a strong yet gentle woman, leaves behind a legacy of genuine faith in the Lord for the generations that follow.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Mildred B. Perry (Billy Neal) of Wendell, Connie B. Chappell (Doug) of Wake Forest and Betty B. Perry (Aldred) of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Lee Perry (Paula), Leah Allen, Shelley Maye (Rodney); granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Perry; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Charlie and Kaylee Perry, Matthew and Rachel Allen, Mackenzie and Jackson Maye; sister, Vera W. Joslyn of Wake Forest; brother, Hubert Watkins (Annie Belle) of Wake Forest; sister-in-law,
Hilda B. Watkins of Raleigh; and a host of special nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her grandson, Neal Perry; grandson-in-law, Steve Allen; and brother, Kenneth Watkins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, and other times at the home.
